My inspiration was simple: the need to breathe sometimes, to relax and connect with nature when I feel vulnerable. Breezy translates that feeling into an olive-green womenswear collection with soft draping, layered transparency, organic textures, and flowing silhouettes.

Station 03 / Garment construction
Eveningwear design and garment development
An eveningwear design project built around a red, floor-length dress with a fitted bodice and dramatic asymmetric skirt. The portfolio documents silhouette exploration, technical and construction development, a photographed toile fitting with specific neckline and skirt corrections, and a final textile direction using red chiffon and red Peau de Soie.

Station 04 / Fitting mannequin
Academic Research Response
An academic fashion-design response combining research into Charles James’s sculptural, feminine silhouettes with a dark blue-and-black concept inspired by Corpse Bride. The portfolio documents textile and color selection, technical sketches, draping and construction experiments, and a completed off-the-shoulder fantasy gown.

An academic fashion project responding to Rei Kawakubo through surreal confectionery and organic imagery, material exploration, technical development, and an original illustrated collection. The project is presented as Melissa's conceptual response, not as a collaboration with or work by Rei Kawakubo.

Fashion Illustration and Concept Development
A fashion illustration and concept-development project exploring dramatic botanical forms, flowing drapery, sharp silhouettes, and contrasting proportions. The portfolio progresses from visual research and palette development to a six-look illustrated lineup, technical flats, and textile and colorway studies; no completed garment is shown.

Melissa Chavez's interest in fashion began in childhood, when she made clothing for dolls from recycled fabric. Her work draws on geometric forms and nature, balancing considered silhouettes with tactile detail. She studied fashion design at Miami Fashion Institute and developed skills across illustration, pattern making, draping, garment construction, textiles, and digital design.
